Holy Companion Resources
Lenten Book Club
Last Spring, a few Holy Companions visited the Rev. Lizzie McManus-Dail and her church, Jubilee Episcopal in Austin. We were incredibly inspired by this creative, queer-celebratory, child-welcoming community. And when we learned that Rev. Lizzie was writing a book called God Didn’t Make Us to Hate Us – what a title, right?! – we couldn’t wait to read it as a community!!
When: This group will gather on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM from March 5-April 9.
Where: In-person on odd weeks, online for even weeks (don’t worry, once you sign up you’ll get a clear schedule!)
About the book:
Countless Christians are deconstructing the fear-based faith they were handed, but many don’t want to give up on God—they want to love and be loved by Jesus without hateful or abusive theology. If you’re one of these believers, this feminist, anti-racist, LGBTQ-affirming devotional will take you on a journey of spiritual reenchantment. Featuring 40 devotions on God’s radical and liberating salvation, it’s here to help you heal your church hurt, restore your sense of community, and embrace Jesus’s heart-healing forgiveness. Move beyond rigid religion and reconnect with the undeniable truth that predates and will outlive all the toxic theology in the world: God made you to love you.
The book will be released Feb. 18. We recommend pre-ordering using this link to buy from Shop at MATTER, a Black and woman-owned bookstore here in Denver.
